Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much does dog daycare and boarding cost at
Praiseworthy Pups?

We have several plans and options available. Please see our Rates.

2. Why should I bring my dog to Praiseworthy Pups for
daycare or boarding?

Most dogs do not get enough exercise, which can shorten their lives,
increase negative behaviors, and decrease the depth of their bond with you.  A full or half day of play time at
Praiseworthy Pups a few days a week will improve your dog’s physical condition through increased activity (while
simultaneously saving wear and tear on your home furnishings!) and will enhance his ability to learn and to respond
to you.

In some dog daycare facilities, dogs are kept in one small room with multiple dogs all day long, without a break. These
dogs are often more stressed at the end of the day because they spent the day trying to fend off the other dogs when
what they really needed was time alone.  At Praiseworthy Pups, we schedule rest periods alternating with play time,
much like children’s preschools.  When it’s a rest period, your dog will be placed into a den with a clean, soft blanket
and a treat to enjoy some quiet time and, perhaps a nap.  When it’s play time, your dog will romp and play with the
other dogs or go to the arena to experience some one-on-one quality play and exercise time with a Daycare
Specialist.

In some boarding facilities, dogs are kept in indoor/outdoor kennels or runs, and their contact with people and other
dogs is limited. In contrast, at Praiseworthy Pups, we give our dog guests lots of love and attention -- frequent walks,
social time with other dogs in the daycare area or play time with the daycare specialists in the arena, special treats,
praise, and hugs. When you leave your dog at Praiseworthy Pups, you can be sure he will have a good time!
Praiseworthy Pups offer our daycare enrollees a stimulating and safe place to stay while their “parents” work, as well
as a fun place to be!

3.  How can I be sure my dog will be safe?

At Praiseworthy Pups, safety is our number one priority.  We measure each dog’s ability to socialize with other dogs
and people before they are allowed to mingle with the group.  We require each dog to have up-to-date vaccinations
and be on appropriate preventive maintenance for heartworms, fleas, and ticks.  Larger or more rambunctious dogs
are separated from smaller or more timid ones to avoid anxiety or accidental injuries.

We keep our dog-to-caretaker ratio low, and dogs are continuously
monitored and frequently engaged in play with our daycare specialists
to avoid negative behaviors brought on by boredom.  We provide
stimulating toys and interactive games and our playrooms have low, dog-sized
furniture and cushioned floors for the comfort of your dog's paws and joints.

Our staff is trained to deal with outbreaks of aggression, and we have a standing
agreement with a local veterinarian should an emergency arise. All staff members are
trained in animal first aid and how to recognize the warning signs of animal aggression.

We are constantly assessing your dog’s overall health while he is in our care. We have a dog first aid manual and a
fully stocked dog first aid kit. Occasionally even small dogs, like children on a playground, may be injured in spite of
the best of care and supervision.  In the unlikely event your dog is injured or becomes ill while at Praiseworthy Pups,
he will be treated onsite (as appropriate) and you will be notified immediately. If we feel veterinary care is required, we
will always attempt to contact you first. However, we consider the well-being of your dog to be a top priority and will not
delay transportation to a veterinarian if professional care is needed urgently.

4.  Do you have any special services and do they cost extra?

Some facilities charge additional fees for a walk, a treat, social contact with other dogs, etc. All  these services and
more are provided at Praiseworthy Pups at no extra charge.  Because we take a limited number of dogs at a time for
boarding and daycare (no more than 15), we can give special,  individualized care to each of our guests. Your dog
will enjoy a fun day of play alternating with scheduled periods of relaxation with restful music or radio, healthy snacks,
walks around the grounds, attention from loving daycare specialists, and toys that stimulate the mind and exercise the
body.

Daily dental care for your dog is just as important to your dog’s overall heath as nutrition, proper exercise and routine
grooming. Plaque builds up on the teeth and these areas grow bacteria and eat away at the teeth and gums.  We
offer daily toothbrushing at no extra charge upon request
. We will introduce your dog slowly to the toothbrush if he's
never had his teeth brushed before, and by doing a little more each day, your dog will soon be eagerly waiting his
turn.  We use disposable brushes to avoid any contamination from one dog to another.

If your dog doesn't already understand basic commands, such as sit, wait, and
come, you will have a pleasant surprise in a few weeks, as we teach our dog
guests basic commands using positive reinforcement and lots of hugs, a service
provided free of charge with the purchase of a
Bark Card or Extended Stay
Boarding.

For more intensive training, see our board-and-train or dayschool training
programs.

5. What will you feed my dog?

To avoid possible stomach upsets from eating different food, we request that
you bring his food in a bag with the dog’s name on it and specific feeding
instructions.  Because we use small bits of dog food as rewards for learning new
commands and other skills, if you don’t want your dog to have any food or treats
during the day because he has allergies or is on a diet, please let us know when you drop off your dog.

6. What do you do with dogs like mine?  He is older and not very active, and I'd like to make sure
he has a pleasant experience at daycare while I’m at work.

We try to meet the needs of all types of dogs, including older and less active dogs that don’t enjoy being sniffed or
invited to play.  Our daycare rooms have portable play yards that can be arranged to create private spaces, and are
perfect for older dogs or dogs with joint ailments. Your dog can enjoy watching the other dogs from his private play
yard or den while relaxing on a cushion in a quieter space.

7. How do I enroll my dog in daycare or make a boarding reservation?

Before your dog's first day of daycare or boarding, you will need to complete and submit the Daycare/Boarding
Registration Form and the Liability Release Form, provide us with proof of current vaccinations and good health, and
meet with a Daycare Specialist.
For boarding reservations, we require a $50 non-refundable* deposit at the time of
reservation, with the remainder paid when the dog is dropped off.  If you have any questions or would like to make a
reservation by phone, please call 817-562-2567.
*$50 non-refundable deposit is required for holidays and spring break periods and will not be refunded for cancellations or no-shows.
For cancellations at least 48 hours before scheduled drop-off, the deposit can be converted to store credit and used in the future. For no-
shows, the deposit is forfeited.

Dogs that are not well socialized will not be allowed to mingle with other dogs during social play. However, we will give
your dog exercise breaks in the arena with our daycare specialists, without other dogs in the area. In most cases, a
dog’s behavior is improved by group play and interaction with our Daycare Specialists. However, for the safety of
other dogs and our staff, any dog that exhibits dangerous behavior that cannot be reasonably controlled
or modified by our staff and that poses a threat to other dogs or our employees will be expelled.

In addition:

  • Dogs must be at least 3 months old.

  • All dogs must be free of fleas and ticks and on a flea/tick preventive, confirmed by a veterinarian.

  • All dogs must have a negative fecal test as confirmed by a veterinarian.

  • All dogs must have a current certificate of health signed by a vet or proof of current vaccinations:
  • Puppy Shot Series
  • Rabies
  • DHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza)
  • Bordatella (kennel cough) every 6 months**

**Kennel cough is a highly contagious airborne infection similar to the common cold that children may catch at school. No vaccine is
100% effective as new strains of kennel cough continually develop and some dogs can be more susceptible to the infection than others.
Praiseworthy Pups takes all possible precautions to eliminate the spread of this infection in our facilities. We highly recommend that
owners get this vaccination two weeks prior to their first day care visit as the vaccine can take up to two weeks to become fully effective.

You are welcome any time to drop by for a visit. We look forward to meeting you and your dog!
